What does Christmas really mean?

During Christmastime, people get stressed out buying many gifts that put them into more debt—but why? What does Christmas mean?

Christmas is the celebration of the most important birth in all of History, which also affects all of Eternity - Your Eternity.

God fulfilled a promise that He made long ago - that He would send a Savior into the World:

For to us a child is born,

    to us a son is given,

    and the government will be on his shoulders.

And he will be called

    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6

That Name of Him is Jesus and His name means Salvation - in His name there will be the forgiveness of sins.

Matthew 1:21

God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.

John 3:16

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through Him.

John 3:17

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.

Acts 4:12

“History” is His-Story. Take, for example, the year that we’re in. What does that date tell us? It tells us that 2024 years ago, Jesus came.

  • A.D. means "Anno Domini," translated as “in the year of the Lord.” It’s a way of counting years after the birth of Jesus Christ.

  • B.C. means “Before Christ.” It's a way of counting years before the estimated birth of Jesus Christ.

Even though we’re all different, we are all fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139), and we all have one thing in common:

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned.

Romans 5:12 

We have all sinned by Thoughts, Words, and Deeds: things we have Thought, Words we have said, and Things we have done.

All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.

Romans 3:23 

For the wages of Sin is Death, but the Gift of God is Eternal Life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

God demonstrated His own Love that when we were sinners Jesus Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”[a] For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Romans 10:9-13

We celebrate the greatest Gift we can ever receive in this life: the forgiveness of sins through Jesus.

When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, 11 “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

Mark 2:5-12

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to divide soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Hebrews 4:12-13

Jesus said of Himself that He is the Way, The Truth and the Life.

John 14:6

I am sure that we have all tried to change ourselves in a lot of ways throughout our lives - but real change begins in the heart. God's Word says: Above all else guard your Heart for it is the Wellspring of life.

Proverbs 4:23

We all need a Spiritual Heart transplant - God's Word says that He will take out the stony heart and give us a Heart of flesh and place His Spirit within us to Love and obey his Commands.

Ezekiel 36:26

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born! Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.  Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[c] must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

John 3:3-8

Jesus came not to be served but to serve and lay HIs life down as a ransom for many.

Mark 10:45

For the Joy set before Him He endured the Cross.

Hebrews 12:2

Jesus said come to me all who are burden and heavy laden and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28-30

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you.

Isaiah 26:3  

We are all looking for Peace and Love and Relationship in this life - But sometimes we have made wrong decisions in where to find it.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Psalm 23

Christianity is not a religion; it is a relationship with the one who created you, the one who died for you, the one who redeemed you, and the one who longs to be with you no matter what.

If nobody loves you in this whole world, know this - that God demonstrated His own love for you by sending His son to die in your place for all of your sins. He didn’t just tell you He loved you, He showed you. Everytime you question yourself, “Who loves me?” think about the Cross where Jesus died for you to live.

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

1 Corinthians 1:18

However, as it is written:

“No eye has seen, No ear has heard, and No human mind has conceived”—the things God has prepared for those who love him.

1 Corinthains 2:9

Salvation is like a marriage. Marriage is not a religion, it is a relationship. You do not say “I have a religion with my Wife or Husband.” You have a Loving, Serving, Sacrificing, Providing, and Protecting relationship with your spouse.

Jesus said that unless you come to Him, you will die in your sins.

I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins.”

John 8:24

The sting of death is sin. But thanks be to God! He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable and the mortal with immortality, the written saying will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

“Where, O death, is your victory?

    Where, O death, is your sting?”

 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.  But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:54-57 

Every second of every day, we are all coming closer and closer to the day when our days will come to an end. We do not know when that day will be exactly, but we all agree it is coming.

 Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts…

Hebrews 3:15

Remember that it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves; it is the gift of God - Not by works, so no one can boast. 

Ephesians 2:8

Remember, it is not what you can do. It is what Jesus else has already done for you. Faith believes in what somebody else has completed for you in your place.

God so loved the world that He gave His one and Only Son (John 3:16). God loves you so much that He gave His son Jesus to die on a Cross for you, so that you may have eternal life.

  • Jesus Lived a life that you could not live.

  • Jesus died a death that you could not die.

  • Jesus rose from the grave which you cannot do.

So, we Celebrate Christmas for what it is: Jesus being born into this world to redeem sinful man so we can be with Him Forever. The greatest decision that everyone on this earth will ever make is whether you will receive the Free Gift of Jesus Christ for the exchange of all of your sins. And be made alive in Christ.

Repent / Confess / Receive / Believe and Be Born Anew in the Finished work of Jesus Christ and follow Him all of your remaining days.

What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? 37 Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 If anyone is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in His Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

Mark 8:36-38

How much is your soul worth? Look who came to save you. Look what it cost Him. He who had no sin (Jesus) became sin for you and me - and His shed blood forgives us.

  • The Greatest Gift that you will ever Hear of is Jesus Christ

  • The Greatest Gift you will ever receive is Jesus Christ

  • The Greatest Gift that you will ever Tell others is Jesus Christ

Jesus is the reason for the season. Jesus is Christmas, and Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us. Jesus is the Savior of the World.

No one will ever come close to loving you more than what Jesus Christ has done by dying for all of your sins and for the joy set before Him He endured the Cross for you.

Hebrews 12:2

  • He is Love.

  • He defines Love

  • He demonstrated His own love towards us by dying for us.

and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:19
